Getting Ready

It’s almost here! The warm weather (we hope). Time to get some things in order. In three weeks we just might be able to plant our garden! The thought of picking a juicy, ripe tomato off the vine, along with some greens, is almost keeping me up at night! I’ve never been this excited about our gardens before.

We put a new floor down on my husband’s ‘stage’. It’s not really a stage, but we do sit out and eat there, he’ll play guitar, this year I have a laptop to keep me occupied. (I find it hard to just sit outside. My husband likes me to sit out with him, so he bought me a laptop.) We still have to put the netting and top on.

(It’s up off the ground, not connected to anything, that way it is not considered a permanent structure. No permit needed. We can’t get away with anything here!)

I put down some weed barrier to prevent growth until we can start our ‘Fairy Garden’ I want to continue clearing another area for our ‘Native Garden’ and don’t want to be bothered maintaining that part.

I edited out a rusty old snowmobile that is back there! I tried moving it myself. Not happening! The scrap metal guys will take it away for free.

We are going to attempt square foot gardening for the first time. My husband has been working the soil on this one:

He used manure: sheep, cow, and hen. Shrimp compost, peat, perlite and black earth.

Our bleeding heart is flowering! It shouldn’t be. This weather is making for an interesting season.

Next post: The flowers.
