While reading an older home drying book, I came across a little blurb on drying milk. Off I go for an on-line search for information.
Funny thing was, I couldn’t find anything. Now I am wondering why. Has anyone tried making their own? Is there a reason I didn’t find anything? Health and safety issues?
Please let me know if you know anything or have tried making it.
The book has this information:
Using a double boiler, boil the water first. Fill the top pot half full of milk. Simmer several hours, or until most of the water has evaporated. Keep an eye on the bottom pot, and add water as necessary.
When the milk is as thick as cream, pour onto tray with 2 inch sides and dry in 150 degree oven. When milk is dry, tray can be flexed to flip off the dried milk onto a clean towel.
When cooled, grind dried milk in grinder or blender. Store in glass jars.
To use:
Add four parts water to one part milk. Let soak one hour, then use for cooking.
So, what do you think? I’m just a little wary since I didn’t find anything out there on the web. I wonder why?
